Reflection

When we first got this project, I thought it would be easy. But as I started working on it, I realized that it would take forever. The genres that were easy were letter, poem, entries and advertisement. I thought that Ms. Sackstein made the right choice of deciding the blog as the last project. I know that I will do a better job with a good amount of info and doing all my work. I wish that in the future, there will be more of these blog projects. Using the blog is much easier than writing it up and I don't have to print or write anything.

Statement of Process

My project was pretty hard than I actually thought. My genres were glossary, game, letter, poem, journal entries, advertisement, character profile, cartoon, and descriptive paragraph. I left out one because I thought I had 10. (*sorry*) I chose this genres because I thought these were suitable and easy for my topic. In the beginning, I chose one invention such as the cotton gin but Ms. Sackstein said that it would not be a project just based on one thing. So instead in the jackdaws I found one that had different types of inventions.
The glossary was simple to do and I had no hard time. I needed to find words that were mostly used (in my topic) and write the meaning. Some words were harder that I thought and I didnt know the meaning such as agriculture, and mass produce. I used words that were used mostly in industrial revolution. First I wrote all the words and surprisingly I found words that were new to me. It was really fun learning new words.
The game was also easy because it was mainly about the whole project and some knowledge that they already knew. I didn't think that the game was a game but mostly a questionaire. I had a fun time making up a "game." I didn't think about doing scrambled words because I would've gotten confused with mixed up words. Silly me!!
The letter was fun to do because I wrote about hardship a man is facing while his children are working hard and hard so they can earn a lot of money. I wrote it to Samuel Slater about the working hours and how much the children earn. I first wanted to do about Eli Whitney but then Ms. G told my that my project can be based on different inventions instead of one idea.
The poem was hard for me to write. I had no idea what it should be about. So I wrote about Robbert Goddard's invention of his rockets. I then, wrote about the rockets launching in the air.
I chose the journal entries because I wanted the readers to know about Henry Ford's famous invention.... the car. I was excited to write the entries so I started with Mr. Ford dreaming to invent something HUGE and GREAT, that people will start buying. He was mostly into machinery.
The advertisement was easy and I thought that I had done this post the best. At first I didnt know what to write about, so I asked Ms.G. She told me that I could write about Eli Whitney's invention, the cotton gin. So I took that idea and made the advertisement about how great the cotton gin is and how it works. I had a hard time but then when Ms.G helped me, I finally knew what to do.
The character profile was fun to do and easy too. I chose the person Eli Whitney because he was mostly known for his invention and how it brought back slavery in the plantation.
The whole project was sort of hard because of what topics I should use and how it will be used. I enjoyed the project and will be looking forward to another blog project. :]

Letter

Dear Samuel Slater,

Hello Sir. Good day!!! I want to congrats you on your new invention and I hope it is working great. I like your idea and please do tell me what the mill does for you. I have heard about a worker threatening you to remove his children from the mill. I do quite agree to that matter, not saying your deed is bad. Do you think that you should consider that idea? I think it's a good idea to give the children some rest, you know? They're so young and yet they are working. Let's think about the children and how long they are going to have to work. I can't believe that children that are almost seven years old are working in the mills. Are the jobs helping the families especially removing spools of thread. Is that all they can do in their entire life? How about reconsidering your idea and start thinking about the goodness of the kids. At least things are going well except for your OTHER problem. Are things going well with handling the money too? My friend has heard rumors about not having enough cash and that you are using food, items in return of cash. Well that's all I could say. Good day!!
Yours Truly,
Worker

Poem

Rockets Launched

Cling, Clack, the hammers go
making the rockets along
working on the rockets
how devastated the workers must be
fixed and ready the rockets are
preparing to fire

Boom, Bam the rockets launch
ready to lift off
five, four, three, two, one
the rocket has launched
in the New England cabbage field
made by Robert Goddard

Fire sparkling reddish orange
grey coated rockets in the air
irrtating sounds screeching above

Reflection: This is a free verse poem. I wrote about Robert Goddard's invention and how it's launched. The place the rocket was launched is in the New England cabbage field. I wrote this because he was one of the famous inventors of the world. He built the rockets from 1926 to 1941. I wrote whatever was coming out of my head because I had so much ideas flowing straight out. This poem came out just in 5 minutes but with hard thoughts added. I brainstormed a lot of things and then it all came into my head. I liked this poem a lot. :)

Journal Entry

Oct 25, 1870

Dear Journal,

I've been planning to be a great inventor one day. Ever since I was a little boy, I been wanting to play and build machines that can help our environment. I especially want to build a gas-powered car. I'm going to name it Ford Motor Company because Ford is my last name. I can't wait to get my patent and start designing and inventing cars. It won't be horses strolling down the streets with people in it, I'm going to build a horse-less transportation that will make everyone to want it. The cars won't have to be bumpy like they used to on the horses. Right now I'm think of cars and how its going to be designed with.

Oct 26, 1879

Dear Journal,

My papa told me that I'm almost there to be an amazing inventor, and I shouldn't give up. I'm going to leave home and work as an apprentice machinist. I might come back home but I might not be able to come home. I truly want to be a machinist. If I do, I'm going to call it the Ford Company and it will have all different sorts of cars. I hope I find a beautiful woman and marry her so that I may have a sweet family.

HEY SLAVE OWNERS!!!

Don't you want your slaves to work faster and save time while cleaning the cottons? Well here's a product that can save your life and possibly your plantation. It's the COTTON GIN. It's invented and designed by Eli Whitney.

On the right, here's a picture of how this invention works. The cotton enters the gin and all the dirty and unwanted things are placed in the trash. Then the metal mesh separates the seed cottons from seed to lint cotton. Finally the the clean cotton comes out.

WHAT A FAST WAY TO CLEAN YOUR COTTON IN SO LITTLE TIME!!

So hurry up and buy one of your own cotton gin. Don't waste time or you might regret it if there's no more. =)
